Neutral, versatile and on trend, grey goes with everything. But with so many options available, how do you choose the best grey floor to suit your home and your style?

Whether your preference is for subtle minimalism or bright and colourful, a grey floor can provide a base on which to build a scheme that truly expresses your personality. What’s more, as grey is so flexible, you can easily change your décor as your tastes develop over the years.

We explore six key styles in grey flooring, from wood and stone to abstract patterns, and look at how these floors can complement your favourite colour schemes.

Limed Oak

With outstanding versatility and neutral colouring that will complement any colour scheme, it’s no wonder that limed oak is a firm favourite. Its neutral tones and interesting grain patterns bring an understated elegance that will stand the test of time.

Here we have paired our cool Nordic Limed Oak with mid-grey walls, white woodwork and natural elements but this floor would look equally amazing as part of a fresh white minimalist scheme or alongside a mix and match of pretty pastel shades.

Brushed Oak

Bringing nature indoors is known to have fantastic mental health benefits and so it’s no wonder that so many of us are introducing natural materials and plants into our homes to create a relaxing and nurturing space.

This living room features our Grey Brushed Oak flooring, laid in a herringbone pattern to bring out the character of the natural grain. Combined with fresh white walls, furnishings in natural materials and layers of cosy fabrics, this is a space where you can truly switch off.

Alternatively, this floor would also complement a scheme with dark blue or green walls or a bold wallpaper print. Grey Brushed Oak is also available in a full-sized plank which can be laid straight to give a sense of space or in a herringbone pattern to add visual interest in larger open plan rooms.

Concrete

An iconic material for urban industrial interiors, polished concrete adds a sleek minimalist vibe. This kitchen embraces its history as a converted warehouse with a look that’s both functional and practical. The smooth fabric-like finish of our Dove Grey Concrete flooring features a light mottling effect that adds a softness to what could be a stark space, contrasting with the rough timber finish of the cupboards.

The large format tiles create a seamless flow that will give you all the style of a polished concrete floor but with extra comfort and convenience. For a more striking result, our Smoked Concrete design provides a darker mid-grey hue that would also balance a bolder colour scheme.

Slate

Another firm favourite for industrial interiors, slate flooring adds warmth and character without overpowering other design elements.

In this bathroom, the subtle patterning of our Honed Pebble Slate adds soft textural interest whilst also providing a practical surface that’s easy to keep hygienically clean.

Available in three colourways, our latest slate designs also include Honed Oyster Slate, which would bring fresh, lighter tones to this room, and Honed Charcoal Slate which would introduce a touch of drama with its darker volcanic greys.

Marble

Nothing screams luxury like marble! For all the sophistication of marble but without the worries, our Glacial Marble has classic Carrara marble looks with clean pale hues and distinctive broken veining. Laid in herringbone pattern, this cool white marble floor complements the vibrant colour scheme of this bathroom. Alternatively, this floor would add a clean finish when paired with a fresh white colour scheme.

Glacial Marble is also available in a full-sized plank and in a dark grey-black colourway, Midnight Marble, which is sure to add that wow factor.

Geometric

A grey floor doesn’t always need to fade into the background. Let the flooring become the star of the show with an interesting geometric pattern.

Create a contemporary statement that pushes the boundaries of style with geometric tiles in grey and white, finished off with a wide matching border. This living room features the large square grid pattern of Lansdown from our Heritage Collection. By keeping the walls and woodwork simple in complementary grey tones, the floor is given the space to shine.

Alternatively, the octagonal tiles with square insets of our Montpelier design would bring a more classical elegance pattern while the abstract geometric forms of Casablanca from our Kaleidoscope range would introduce a stunning patchwork effect.
