What’s hot for kitchens?

Posted on the 10/09/2023 by Karndean Designflooring

We ask a lot from our kitchens. From a practical place to cook with plenty of clever storage for gadgets that make our lives easier to a comfortable place to gather and make memories with loved ones, the heart of our home also needs to reflect our personality and lift our spirits.

So when we invest in a new kitchen, we want a style that’s in vogue but also timeless. A space to be proud of, that will add value to our daily life and is easy to keep clean. To help you choose a kitchen that you’ll love for many years to come, we look at the latest kitchen trends and the flooring that will bring your favourite style to life.

Quiet luxury

Elegant, chic and intimate. The trend in quiet luxury encapsulates refined yet understated style.

With origins in boutique hotel bedrooms, it’s no surprise this low key luxe look has found its way into our hearts. To get this style in your kitchen, be inspired by top designers who use clever solutions to elevate a practical space beyond the mundane.

For example, hiding appliances away in custom storage will result in restful minimalist lines, while a colour palette of rich neutrals such as dramatic greys or creamy white will add an unapologetically luxurious mood. Balance old and new by introducing retro elements such as brass and leather seating or add pops of seasonal interest with accessories in jewel colours.

When it comes to flooring, complement contemporary units with a smooth grey stone such as Roman Slate from our Van Gogh range or make a statement with one of our marble designs. For a truly authentic look, add design strips to replicate grouting and finish with a bespoke streamlined border.

Natural comfort

Soothing, organic and tactile. The restorative aspects of nature are a key trend this year so opting for a natural, environmentally conscious kitchen style is sure to appeal to all your senses, helping you to take a deep breath and feel calm.

The secret to natural kitchen design is a timeless relaxed approach. Think soft colours and rustic materials that reflect your local landscape. Blend warm earthy neutrals such as off white, taupe, blues and greens with interesting patterns such as bloomcore wallpapers and herringbone flooring in a warm oak design such as Warm Brushed Oak from our Van Gogh range or classic Blond Oak from our Art Select range. You’ll be spoilt for choice with our wide selection of herringbone, parquet and chevron planks, including options in a rigid core format to suit uneven or drying subfloors.

To complete the laid back vibe, add a cosy seating nook for informal dining and open shelving to display houseplants, unique vintage finds and cookware that has been passed down the generations.

Futuristic fun

Sleek, quirky and unexpected. Minimalist clean lines and a monochrome colour palette can result in a kitchen that fades into the background. But with the intriguing surrealism of the latest digital aesthetics, introducing comfortable rounded forms and playful cartoonish features can ensure your high-tech kitchen stands out from the crowd.

Enhance a handleless kitchen using a combination of powdery matt, high shine or mirrored finishes and reeded glass. Then add interesting lighting and intricate tactile patterns in backsplash tiling and flooring.

Look to our collection of herringbone floors in a grey toned wood design such as Lime Washed Oak from our Knight Tile range or a limestone design such as Argento or Fumo from our Opus collection. Alternatively, match the scale of a large open plan space with a full sized plank laid in a herringbone pattern or introduce an unusual 3D pattern with our Kaleidoscope range

Finally, introduce a personal touch and eye-catching colour with artwork and accessories in pastel brights or ombre metallics.
