Dulux Colour of the Year 2021: Brave Ground

Posted on the 08/10/2020 by Karndean Designflooring

Each year we look forward with anticipation to Dulux’s Colour of the Year and every year it seems their colour specialist team hits the nail on the head to capture the mood of the moment.

We love their choice for 2021: Brave Ground, a warm, elemental neutral shade which perfectly reflects our current need for calm, tranquillity and a connection with nature.

Brave Ground offers us a sense of stability in our rapidly changing world and perfectly suits the trend for botanical interiors and warm earthy shades that can envelop us in the calming, health enhancing glow of the natural world.

We look at three ways you could incorporate this restorative colour into your home, whether in combination with a pale neutral palette for a relaxing and nurturing space or to balance bold shades and allow rich hues to shine and inspire us with confidence.

Option one: peacefully simple

Cocoon yourself in the tranquillity of a neutral scheme with an understated palette of pale earthy shades that is anything but boring. Introducing Brave Ground into a scheme based on white, natural wood and greenery will add a warm tone that flexes with natural light throughout the day to create a space where you can instantly relax.

Option two: welcoming grey

Brave Ground is the perfect harmonious neutral shade to introduce an earthy richness into monochrome minimalist trends such as modern industrial or Scandi. Adding a feature wall or dado panel in Brave Ground will highlight the warmer tones of any wood elements and natural planting to add a touch of homely cosiness to these sophisticated cool grey schemes.

Option three: balanced drama

Bolder tones such as deep blues and greens bring a protective and enriching feel to our homes and are ideal in spaces where we relax such as sitting rooms and bedrooms. Pairing a bold colour scheme and dramatic wood design flooring with the warm beige tones of Brave Ground will provide balance to a dramatic design so that it can shine without overpowering.

However you choose to incorporate Brave Ground into your home, we’re confident that this comforting shade will help us find strength as we look ahead to 2021 and forge new beginnings.
