Bespoke design gives hospitality venues a sense of theatre

Posted on the 21/02/2022 by Karndean Designflooring

What is luxury? Does it mean expensive that only a privileged few can attain or is it a feeling? Innovative hospitality businesses are looking to offer an individual experience that makes guests feel special without the high-end price tag and that reflects their new attitudes to ethical living, travel and leisure.

Independent hotels and leisure venues are turning to bespoke design to offer this new wave of consumers a personalised service and an opulent boutique experience, distinguishing themselves from the standardisation of international chains. Bespoke designs can not only reflect a venue’s unique selling point but also connect the interior to its locality and encourage guests to immerse themselves in a different reality from everyday life for a transformative experience.

An imaginative floor design can engage visitors with the story of the building and its environment as well as act as a guide to using and navigating the space. The consistent product thickness of Karndean means that wood and stone designs can be effortlessly laid alongside each other without any issues with gapping or lipping to give an individual look in adjoining zones.

The endless design possibilities of Karndean flooring means that a designer can give any interior a truly unique personality. For example, a large open plan room can be partitioned into activity zones with a mix and match of designs in different laying patterns or angles. A floor inset with a logo or oversized geometric pattern can create a grand entrance or a focal point that leaves a lasting impression. To facilitate wayfinding, walkways can be highlighted with a contrasting design. Alternatively, simply altering the laying pattern will give more subtle directional guidance.

With a combination of designs and layouts, integrated borders, design strips and special cuts, particular architectural features can be emphasised. Options include random herringbone patterns using any combination of complementary or contrasting wood, stone and solid colour planks, our Heritage Collection, which reinvents the historical style of Victorian tiled floors with a contemporary twist, or our Kaleidoscope range which provides the opportunity to experiment with geometric patterns and dimension.

For the ultimate in bespoke design, tiles can be laser-cut or hand-cut into any shape using any combination of designs. With outstanding technical specifications and unrivalled flexibility to create truly original floors, specifying a bespoke Karndean floor can give hospitality venues a vibrant future in a competitive market.
